A new rail option is making it easier to connect Hue with the landscapes of Quang Binh. Visit Hue reported the launch of the “Hue – Phong Nha World Heritage Journey” train on August 28, 2026. It links several stations along a roughly 190-kilometre route and offers travelers a scenic alternative to completing the entire journey by road.
Route and stations
The published route connects Hue, Dong Ha, My Trach, Dong Hoi and Tho Loc. Importantly, the train reaches Tho Loc; it does not take passengers directly to the entrance of Phong Nha Cave. Plan a separate road transfer for the final leg to the national park or your accommodation.
Published schedule and 2026 promotion
- Hue to Tho Loc: Train HQ2, listed at 07:15–11:55
- Return toward Hue: Train HQ1, listed at 13:15–17:25
- Promotion announced: 15% off the outbound fare and an additional 10% for a return journey, from September 6 through December 31, 2026, subject to the operator’s terms.
Train schedules, discounts and available seats can change. Verify the current timetable, ticket rules and transfer arrangements with the railway or official Visit Hue information before booking.
How to make the journey work
For a day trip, coordinate the arrival time at Tho Loc with your onward driver and the opening hours of the places you plan to visit. Travelers staying overnight in Phong Nha can take a more relaxed approach and arrange their return for a later date. If your group has large luggage, confirm storage and vehicle capacity before purchasing tickets.
Useful planning notes
- Book rail tickets and onward transport as separate steps unless the official operator confirms a combined package.
- Keep buffer time for station access and road transfers.
- Ask whether your fare qualifies for the published promotion and what documents or booking conditions apply.
- Check current cave and park conditions before finalizing an itinerary.
